Dick Grayson, known as Nightwing, is a superhero character published by DC Comics.
He first appeared in Detective Comics #38 in April 1940 as Robin, Batman's original sidekick.
Growing up, Grayson was an acrobat in a family circus act. After his parents were murdered, Bruce Wayne took him in and trained him to fight crime.
As he matured, Dick Grayson eventually outgrew the role of Robin and adopted the new identity of Nightwing, seeking to establish himself as his own hero.
